Character as a function and character as an individual in the context of Czech fantasy literature

The bachelor thesis focuses on analyzing characters from selected works of Czech fantasy literature. It makes use of Brian Attebery's theory of character in a fantasy narrative and deals with the presence of characteristics of actor and actant. The thesis is divided into several parts. The first chapters provide the theoretical background and define the term fantasy and its origin, as well as the social reach of the genre. They also deal with attributes of terms actor and actant as well as archetypes and archetypal characters. The practical part of the thesis applies this knowledge to analyze selected characters from three works of Czech fantasy literature: Ve službách klanu by Miroslava Žamboch, Psí zima by Petra Neomillnerová and Asfalt by Štěpán Kopřiva.
